A Research Associate position exists on Passivity Methods in Control funded by EPSRC as part of a recently announced programme grant on Control for Energy and Sustainability awarded to Imperial College and the University of Cambridge. This project will be supervised by Prof M.C. Smith. The aim of the project is to advance a method of passive mechanical control using the inerter device which has recently been pioneered at Cambridge. The project has the dual aim to develop the underlying network synthesis theory with particular reference to efficiency of realisation and to facilitate the further deployment of the approach in targeted application areas (e.g. automotive and rail suspensions). The successful candidate will have, or be shortly expected to gain, a PhD in a relevant area. Expertise in the areas of electrical and mechanical networks, control systems and passivity will be essential.
